Club Slip

Work has started on the club slip. As you can see from the photographs it is in a poor state and can only be used at the highest tides. The intention is to extend the slip to make it usable for all but the lowest of tides. The slip fund stands at £1,000 due to Ian Clark and his fund raising schemes and generous donations by Andy Taylor and Al Black of a £100 each. If you would like to donate to the club slip fund then make a cheque out to the Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boating Club and write on the back Slip Fund. The repair of the slip would make a big difference to the club and would in courage more people in the area to take part in water sports. If you would like to help or provide expertise then contact the club through the contact page. Andy Taylor and Ian Clark will be organising the work and will contact club members by email with times and dates when work on the slip can take place eg low tide.

Register of Rowers

Looking for someone to row with? Need another person to take out on a pair? Lots of people work on shifts or have unsociable hours or work away from home and do not have a regular work pattern. In order to help put such people in touch with each other, we are compiling a list of people who want to help in making contact with other rowers. If you want to go onto the register, please email your name and contact details together with any information on your general availability to ianandsusie.greenock@btinternet.com. We will put the register on the club noticeboard and post it on the web site. If you want to row but don't know how, please contact Ian Clark on 01475 729289. Ian will be please to help you to learn.

Vacancies for Sandpaperers and Varnishers

Because of the recent prolonged cold spell we have fallen badly behind in varnishing our pleasure boats before the start of the season. If you are able to spare a couple of hours at any time on any day, and you are willing to sand or varnish a boat, please let me know. Ian Clark 01475 729289.

Open Day at the Boat Club

The Open Day was a busy and successful day see pictures. "Thank you" to all the people who took part in yesterday's event, and made it such a success. We took in almost ₤300 and, just as importantly, we had 13 membership enquiries.
The final total of monies is not settled yet, because we have a few things left over, which we might be able to sell or raffle, viz The signed T-shirt of Katherine Grainger donated by Maggi Blair, and the ship's wheel, which I forgot to bring, as well as the 10p I found on the beach this morning.
It is unfair to single any one person out, because everybody did their bit, but I would like to say a special thank you to the ladies who stood in the cold and made tea, coffee, pancakes, soup. Marion, Yvonne, Maggi, Frankie, and to the folk who brought Jumble, especially Pat Johnston, Keith Clague and Gordon McKenzie, whose jumble donations were really generous.
It has to be said that ₤84.70 is a lot of cups of tea, soup and pancakes.
I think that the afternoon was a social success too, we had visitors from other Clubs, notably Royal Gourock YC, esplanade promenaders, one Swedish lady, one Norwegian, as well as families from RWSABC. On Friday there were 4 ladies from Helensburgh who got the date wrong, but couldn't come back.

Thanks are due to all the people who came and bought, there will be a short notice on the website for them together with some photographs, and for people who advertised the event, notably Inverclyde Now, The Telegraph, CVS Inverclyde,Clyde1, Rev. Sorensen and others who displayed posters.

We now have approximately ₤800 in our Fund for the Sailor's Slip, which should give us a good start. Future Events are planned for the Fund, notably a "Busker's" evening and a "Big Band" Night Out........... details of which will be revealed. We hope that you will support these events also.
